Greta is a young American who agrees to work as a nanny in England, fleeing her past. To her surprise, the child she has to care for is a life-size doll. In addition, in the performance of his work he has to follow very strict rules. When left alone, Greta breaks the rules, triggering a series of disturbing events that lead her to convince herself that the doll could be alive.
